No Team Member or Fan will cause any form of personal abuse, including verbal, physical and emotional abuse, towards other athletes, officials, host personnel, spectators and others.
No Team Member or Fan will refuse to abide by an official's decision, threaten an official, or at any time lay a hand upon, push, shove, strike, or make incidental physical contact with the body or kick dirt or other matter on the official or attempt to cause physical contact when disputing a decision. This includes causing or attempting to cause physical contact another participant at the tournament.
No Team Member or Fan will make any disparaging remarks or actions towards other athletes, officials, executive members, spectators and others.
No Team Member or Fan will react in a violent manner to any incident nor use any form of profane, vulgar, obscene or abusive language or gestures, whether it is directed at an official, opponent, playing colleague, team official, league official or spectator. Neither will they tolerate profane, vulgar, obscene or abusive language or gestures from any supporters and other members of their team.
No Team Member or Fan will use intimidating or threatening behaviour towards officials, opponents, playing colleagues, team officials, league officials or spectators nor will they permit any others to openly or maliciously criticize, badger, harass, or threaten an official.
No Team Member or Fan will make objectionable demonstrations by throwing bats, gloves or other equipment in a forceful manner.
No Team Member will discuss publicly with participants and spectators in a derogatory or abusive manner any decision by the officials or any opinions of players.
No Team Member or Fan will cause the destruction of property belonging to others.
No Team Member will use any intoxicating substances during the course of the game, or appear to be in an intoxicated condition.
No Team Member or Fan will harass, heckle, insult, jeer, or use verbal tactics to embarrass or insult an Executive Board Member, Association Representative, employee or other participant at the site before, during or after a game.
No Team Member will use any improper and unapproved equipment.
No Team Member or Fan will give false or misleading information or fail to cooperate with an Execute Board Member in the discharge of his/her official duties.
No Team Member or Fan, when requested by the game official, will refuse to assist him/her in the enforcement of this Code of Conduct and the control of players making threats.
No Team Member or Fan will engage in a continuous verbal attack upon an official or other participant or spectator after they have been ejected from a game or make a verbal threat of physical violence upon an official.
Intent to Injure: Any such incident will be reported to the Executive Officers immediately and will be reviewed by them. The umpire of that game will file a written report to the Umpire in Chief and to the Executive Officers of the League. The player causing the injury and the player receiving the injury and their respective managers will file a written report with the Executive Officers. Upon review of all reports, the Executive Officers will determine if the injury was a deliberate attempt to injure. If it is deemed as deliberate, the following penalty shall be imposed:
- Suspension from the League of the offending player for the balance of the season as well as the playoffs.
- Maximum suspension from the League up to and including five (5) years.
- Any team using such a suspended player, coach or manager, By-Law #11, Sections (c), (d),and (e) will be in effect.
- The decision of the Executive Officers is final. There is NO APPEAL PROCESS.
Fighting: As it is the intention of the League to promote the sport of Slo-pitch as recreational baseball, the Membership adopts the following rules relating to fighting during any event(s) hosted by the League, including league play and playoff tournament.
- If fighting occurs during the conduct of a game, the umpire shall immediately terminate that game. The umpire shall prepare a report that includes identification of the participating teams, time, date, diamond location and identification of players involved.
- The umpire shall immediately suspend any player who participates in fighting from play. There shall be no exceptions. This suspension shall be in effect for period of eight (8) days.
- In the case of any game terminated under section (A), both teams shall be deemed to have forfeited the game and no points or runs (plus/minus) shall be awarded.
- The executive shall review the incident as reported by the umpire within seven (7) days. After the review of the incident, the Executive shall immediately suspend any players who are identified in the umpire’s report as having participated in fighting. This suspension shall be in effect for a period of one (1) year from the date of the incident. The Executive shall notify the Teams affected by the decision within eight (8) days.
- Teams reported under section (A) shall be fined $200.00. The fine must be paid to the league Treasurer within fourteen (14) days. Fines not paid in accordance with this Section shall cause immediate suspension of the team involved, from the League. This suspension shall occur on the fifteenth (15) day after the incident. THERE WILL BE NO REFUND ON ANY LEAGUE FEES to the involved teams.
- Any incidents reported under Section (E) which occur during the Playoff Tournament shall be reviewed on the day of the incident by the Executive and fines assessed under Section (E) shall be payable immediately, IN CASH. NO team, as reported under Section (E) shall be permitted to continue play until the fine has been paid.
- Any team reported in a second incident under FIGHTING, shall be suspended from the league.
- Points accumulated by any team who is suspended from the league due to non-payment of fines under FIGHTING, shall be redistributed accordingly in relation to the teams playing during league play or in the playoff tournament.
- Should fighting occur during the championship or consolation finals, the umpire shall terminate play immediately. There shall be no further play and no winner shall be declared nor shall prizes or trophies be awarded. The Executive shall review the incident in accordance with the section FIGHTING and fines and suspensions will be applicable to the following year.
Any player ejected from a Regular/Play-off game shall be suspended as follows:
- Minimum of 1 to 3 game(s) for the first offense.
- The remaining of the season for a second offense.
- For a third offense, the player/coach will not be able to play/coach in the Oshawa Slo-Pitch League again.
THE EXECUTIVE BASED ON THE NATURE OF THE INCIDENT, SHALL DETERMINE SUSPENSION LENGTHS. THE EXECUTIVES DECISION SHALL BE FINAL WITH NO APPEAL PROCESS. |
